There’s this phrase we use in Spanish, resistir archivo, which could be translated into something like “beat the archive”. It means having an impeccable record. We use it mostly when people fail to hold themselves to such a standard. When someone claims they possess certain values and morals and then they get served with screenshot after screenshot of old tweets that contradict them, we say they just couldn’t beat the archive. When that friend who always falls fast and hard in love gets a new partner and claims she’s never felt this way before, you can bring up their list of exes, people she claimed made her feel a way she’d never felt before, to prove that she cannot, not when you’re around, beat the archive and claim this is the first time this happens.
I can’t beat the archive here on Substack. My main newsletter, written in Spanish, has hundreds and hundreds of posts published between 2021 and now. Three years of weekly thoughts and young ideas. I love it and I hate it. I love that…
